About Us
Arise India Foundation was born out of the desire to apply Indian thought for humanity's benefit and positively contribute towards the goals and ideals expressed in the Charter of the United Nations.
To do this, we first carefully examine Indian thought, culture and the lives of India's great men and women. Next, we isolate those elements that can assist us in effectively addressing the complex challenges of today's world. Finally, we transform these elements into initiatives and apply them to tough problems in the fields of health, peace, culture, environment, science and economic activity.
We like to find simple--not simplistic--solutions. We believe in the golden rule, in the power of listening and in taking action. Fellow travelers who share in our vision are always welcome to join us.
Our flagship initiative--the Mahatma Gandhi Health and Peace Walk--is based upon Mahatma Gandhi’s life as he walked regularly to maintain his health. By encouraging people to follow his footsteps and integrate walking in their daily regime, we aim to empower people to enhance their wellness and help them prevent heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Arise India Foundation's efforts are guided by a distinguished board of Advisors. They are (in alphabetical order): Mr. Ravi Kiran Aggrawal, Head of Orbit Corporation Limited, (http://Orbitcorp.com), Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International Social Service Organization and winner of the Stockholm Water Prize, (http://sulabhinternational.org) and Mr. Erol User, an entrepreneur, an activist and a thinker (http://www.eroluser.com/). The current President of Arise India Foundation is Mr. Rahul Sur. Mr. Navratan Vohra heads its operations in India.
The painting on the left symbolically represents the gentlest Indian--Mahatma Gandhi-- leading the peoples of the world towards a more peaceful, healthier and sustainable tomorrow.
In our logo, the flame in the center symbolizes vidya---knowledge, wisdom and illumination. Together with the tendrils on each side, it represents a blossoming lotus—a flower that remains pure even when surrounded by the many attractions of this world. The shape of the petals also evokes the feathers of a dancing peacock.
